Minor earthquake felt in Puntarenas on Friday evening

On Friday afternoon a 4.4 magnitude earthquake rattled the Paquera in Puntarenas, according to the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI).

The tremor was felt at 5:32 p.m., 15 kilometers northeast of Paquera.

Costa Rica also faced a tsunami warning after an 8.9-magnitude earthquake hit Japan and sent waves headed to the Pacific coast of the Americas. But the alert was lifted Friday afternoon, and the waves never made landfall.
