Surfing brother and sister win first national tournament of 2011

Siblings Luis and Lisbeth Vindas won the first tournament of the year on Costa Rica´s National Surf Circuit this weekend in Jacó.

Luis gave a strong performance in defending the surfing national title he won last year. He dominated the men’s division of the Oceans by DayStar 2011 tournament on Jacó Beach. Second place Torres Maikol finished more than five points behind Luis in the final results. Lisbeth needed a late rally Sunday to overcome American Jordan Hundley and win the women’s division by .33 points.

“The truth is it was very difficult to win this tournament because I have been working very hard on my surfing school and did not have time to train, but my house is in Jacó, and I know the waves very well,” Lisbeth Vindas said.

The next tournament will take place in Palo Seco, Parrita, on Feb. 26 and 27 in front of Hotel La Isla.
