British citizens and fun seekers of all nationalities celebrated the 83rd birthday of Queen Elizabeth II with games, music, food and song at the annual fundraising event, which drew approximately 1,000 people. Though final figures were not yet available at press time, last year’s event raised more than $22,000 for schools in need. This year’s proceeds will go to schools damaged in the Jan. 8 earthquake centered near Poás, northwest of the capital.
