AMCHAM Honors Firms For Social Responsibility

Costa Rican-American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) this week awarded its Contribution to the Community prizes to Wal-Mart, Pfizer pharmaceuticals and the CostaRican-NorthAmericanCulturalCenter for their socially responsible business practices.

Former astronaut Franklin Chang accepted the award on behalf of the CulturalCenter for a program that attracts English teachers to the state education system.

Pfizer was honored for its program For the Love of Life, which treats AIDS patients, helps families in poverty and initiates reforestation in some areas.

Wal-Mart won for its program that works with clients and communities to reduce environmental impact.
