Seventh National Science Conference UnderWay

SCIENCE and music lovers will unite this weekend at INBioparque in Heredia, north of San José, as the National Science and Technology Center (CIENTEC), in association with the Brazilian Embassy and Universidad Nacional, holds its Seventh National Science Conference as part of the World Year of Physics, 2005, and Costa Rica’s national science month.The conference will feature workshops and conferences for teachers, scientists, musicians and students on topics such as technology, environment, conservation and natural-disaster management.Brazilian musical group Uakti will give workshops throughout the weekend on music engineering, acoustic physics and the evolution of instruments in modern music.Performing for the first time in Costa Rica, Uakti will present its blend of world, popular Brazilian, jazz and new age music at the National Theater in San José Aug. 30 at 8 p.m. Tickets start at ¢1,500 ($3.10), with discounts for students and senior citizens.
