Construction Grows 28% in First Semester

CONSTRUCTION in San José grew 28% in the first six months of the year compared to the same period in 2004, the Costa Rican Engineers’ and Architects’ Association announced Aug. 11.Between January and June of this year, 2.7 million square meters of construction were registered, up from 2.1 million in the same period in 2004, the association reported.February and May were the months during which the most construction was carried out; more than 545,000 square meters were built in May alone, the highest amount of monthly construction in the past five years.The province of San José registered the most construction, 27% of the total, followed by Alajuela with 20% and Puntarenas with 10%.
