Costa Rican Police Dismantle International Migrant Smuggling Ring

Costa Rican authorities have arrested 17 individuals in a series of coordinated raids across multiple cities, dismantling a complex migrant smuggling ring operating between Ecuador and the United States. The operation, dubbed the “Atlantic Case,” followed an extensive investigation launched in 2023 and involved cooperation with U.S. and Panamanian authorities. The criminal network, which charged around $14,000 for its services, used a sophisticated logistical structure to recruit, accommodate, and transport migrants through various means including land, sea, and air. U.S. Airlines Slash Fares to Costa Rica

Major U.S. airlines including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines have announced significantly reduced fares to Costa Rica, with round-trip flights starting as low as two hundred and twelve dollars. These discounted fares apply to flights arriving in both San José and Liberia, catering to diverse traveler preferences. The travel window extends from late August through February, aligning with Costa Rica’s dry season. While most flights include layovers and are basic economy tickets, nonstop options are available from Miami. The Costa Rican Tourism Board sees this as a significant opportunity to attract more visitors to experience the country’s ‘pura vida’ lifestyle, rich biodiversity, and world-renowned hospitality. Local businesses are preparing for an influx of visitors, and these reduced fares are expected to play a crucial role in Costa Rica’s economic recovery and tourism growth.
