Research by Dan Buettner’s Blue Zones organization has revealed humble foods like legumes, grains, and in Costa Rica – gallo pinto – have longevity-boosting powers. Studying the eating habits of long-lived Nicoyans, Buettner found gallo pinto was a staple meal. Nutritionists note these foods are nutrient-dense, boost energy, and help manage blood pressure. A Harvard study also found a balanced diet is crucial for a long healthy life. Buettner’s work shows the importance of food choices and their impact on longevity. In Costa Rica, gallo pinto demonstrates how humble, plant-based foods can promote health and lifespan when part of holistic healthy lifestyles.

Intel Investing $1.2 Billion in Costa Rica.

This week Intel announced a major $1.2 billion investment in Costa Rica over the next two years to upgrade facilities and prepare operations for cutting-edge semiconductor manufacturing. Intel already operates R&D, assembly, testing, and services centers in Costa Rica employing over 5,000 workers. The influx of funds comes as the U.S. Chips and Science Act aims to boost American semiconductor competitiveness against China. Intel CEO Patrick Gelsinger called it the most meaningful U.S. industrial policy since WWII, and Costa Rica will play a key role. This investment will advance Costa Rica’s tech capabilities and provide many high-quality jobs. It further cements Costa Rica as a prime location for global high-tech investment and talent, as both Intel and the Costa Rican government have expressed a cooperative spirit boding well for the country’s future.

Costa Rica President Chaves and Biden Discuss Migration, Trade and Security.

Presidents Joe Biden and Rodrigo Chaves met at the White House on September 28th to discuss key issues including migration, trade, and security. They agreed to collaborate on addressing root causes driving Central American migration and establishing legal pathways to the US. The leaders also discussed cooperation on border security and reaffirmed commitment to the US-Costa Rica free trade agreement. Deepening economic ties in areas like clean energy and technology was another focus. Strengthening democracy and human rights in the region was also discussed. In a joint statement, Biden and Chaves expressed commitment to advancing shared interests between the two nations. The meeting signals the importance the US places on relations with Costa Rica and the Biden administration’s dedication to tackling regional challenges.
