Vice President and Finance Minister Helio Fallas announced on Tuesday that the government will conduct an evaluation of all salary incentives and policies at public banks, following an investigation by the Comptroller General's Office last month. The investigation found that salary incentives and bonuses are hurting credit options for people and for small businesses.
Costa Rica's government will "definitely" lower the forecast for this year's fiscal deficit as the government steps up efforts to fight tax evasion in the Central American country, Vice President Helio Fallas said.
President-elect Luis Guillermo Solis presented the first half of his Cabinet ministers Monday, including Vice President Helio Fallas as his minister of finance. Solís appeared to start his deficit reduction plan by cutting down the number of ministers in his Cabinet, assigning Fallas to double duty and eliminating another post altogether.
