GUATEMALA CITY – Former Vice President Roxana Baldetti was formally charged with illicit association, customs fraud and bribery on Tuesday, just days after she was arrested for allegedly helping mastermind a massive customs fraud network known as “La Línea” in tandem with Guatemalan President Otto Pérez Molina.
The assault in the municipality of Bluefields took place when the gang attempted to free one of their own, who had been arrested, according to a statement.
At least one Mexican man believed to be living in Costa Rica has ties to the notorious drug kingpin, who recently escaped from a maximum security Mexican prison. El Chapo even is said to have designed a plan to break that man out of Costa Rica’s La Reforma prison.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Drug traffickers who cooperate with U.S. federal investigators are poorly vetted, and the Drug Enforcement Administration did not properly monitor at least 240 informants — some of whom crossed the line into illegal activity and were under criminal investigation by other authorities.
Among the kingpins still held at Altiplano, according to the government, are Servando "La Tuta" Gómez Martínez, leader of the Knights Templar gang; Mario Cardenas Guillén of the Gulf Cartel; and Edgar Valdéz Villarreal, alias La Barbie, of the Beltrán Leyva cartel.
Though it is difficult to imagine Guzmán's accomplices digging under the prison for so long while avoiding detection, his engineers have been doing it for years right under the noses of U.S. border agents and their sophisticated technology.
For the next six months, OIJ chief Solano and another suspect must sign in with the prosecutor’s office every 15 days, stay away from witnesses and victims, not interfere with the investigation, and maintain their current residence.
