San José was named “Mexico & Central America’s Leading Meetings & Conference Destination,” at the 2014 World Travel Awards held in Quito, Ecuador, last weekend.
GUATEMALA CITY – The streets of the Guatemalan capital’s Zona 4 are a mix of quirky cafes and bars, graffiti, mechanics, parking lots and boarded-up buildings. At one end, passing cars are surrounded by shuco hustlers – men selling Guatemalan-style hot dogs – while on the other, dilapidated paint work stands beside new apartment buildings and office spaces.
Is it a stand-in for ugly American? A warmhearted nickname? A slanderous sobriquet? There are few things expats come across here that can set off such impassioned debates over the word's weight.
Avianca Airlines is now offering discounted rates on round-trip airfare in the region starting at $249, including taxes. The promotion, which also includes deals on travel packages to Central American destinations, is part of a program called "Discovering Central America," and it runs through May 15.
The groundbreaking comedian even made all the tabloids during a visit in Costa Rica in early 2010 -- after she wasn't allowed to leave the country due to a ticketing mix-up.
