Owners of the Europa Hotel & Casino and Hotel Radisson’s Casino, located in San José, announced they would close the businesses and lay off 250 staff members due to high operating costs, the group's attorney, Hugo Navas, said.
The U.S.-based company Motif last Friday announced the closure of its customer support call center in Heredia, north of the Costa Rican capital. The news was confirmed in a press release signed by local manager Kaushal Mehta, stating, “[The closure] was due to a change in the customer base served by Motif from its Costa Rica facilities.”
The hotel's Facebook and Twitter pages haven't been updated since Sept. 19, and attempts to contact hotel representatives on Wednesday evening were unsuccessful.
StarTek, a U.S. provider of business outsourcing services, will close its call center in Costa Rica on Aug. 30, according to MarketWatch, part of The Wall Street Digital Network. The closure would mean the dismissal of the company’s 550 employees at their America Free Zone facilities in the province of Heredia, who managed customer relations and technical support calls, primarily for U.S. telecom companies.
