President Solís to discuss migration, green energy with US Vice President Joe Biden

President Luis Guillermo Solís will meet next Monday with U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden in Washington D.C. to talk about regional security, irregular migration and renewable energy.

Solís said his visit to the White House will be brief and that the agenda was convened following an official invitation from the U.S. government.

One of the key issues to be discussed at the meeting is the newly announced program to provide temporary shelter to Central American refugees while they are processed for asylum in the U.S.

Under the program, Costa Rica will take up to 200 asylum-seekers at a time from Central America’s Northern Triangle: El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.

Solís and Biden will also discuss the formulation of a sustainable energy strategy for Central America.

Casa Presidencial reported that Solís will take the opportunity to promote Christiana Figueres’ bid for the General Secretariat of the United Nations.

The official entourage will include Foreign Minister Manuel González, Presidency Minister Sergio Alfaro and director of the Department of Intelligence and Security Mariano Figueres. The group will be back in the country on Tuesday.
