Route 32 construction to last three months

Repairs on Route 32, a highway connecting the capital with the Caribbean province of Limón, will take up to three months to complete, authorities from the National Roadway Council (CONAVI) said on Monday.

Work includes demolition of the existing concrete layer and the paving of four lanes on a stretch of road from the intersection in front of the daily La República in Tournón (northwest of San José) to the Saprissa Bridge.

CONAVI officials recommend drivers use alternate routes to avoid traffic jams. Among the suggested routes is National Route 5 for those traveling from San José to Tibás (northwest of the capital) and to the province of Heredia.

Travelers going to the north of the capital (Guadalupe, Moravia) can turn right at La República and head towards the court facilities in Goicoechea. Those traveling from Limón should use the route through Santo Domingo in the province of Heredia.

According to CONAVI, some 60,000 cars use Route 32 daily.
