Costa Rica’s Festival de la Luz to take over San José Saturday

The country’s biggest holiday celebration, the Festival de la Luz, or Festival of Lights, takes place Saturday in San José. Started in 1996, this year’s edition of the festival will feature six parade floats, 13 marching bands and seven cheerleading groups from around the country. Prizes are awarded each year for the best in each category.

The parade begins at 6 p.m. at Parque La Sabana and travels east through downtown San José along Paseo Colón and Avenida Segunda.

If you’re trying to drive through the city on Saturday, expect detours and delays. Paseo Colón and Avenida Segunda will be closed to cars at noon, according to daily La Nación.
