Panamanian fishermen rescued after 33 days adrift

After 33 days adrift in the Pacific Ocean, four Panamanian fishermen were rescued on Feb. 19.

The Costa Rican fishing boat “La Modesta” spotted the shipwrecked crew and alerted the Coast Guard, which picked up the crew 280 nautical miles off the coast of Cabo Blanco, according to the Public Security Ministry.

The crew told authorities that they were fishing at sea when their vessel, “Antares III,” had mechanical troubles and lost power. Despite its month at sea, the crew was in good condition, said Ingrid Luna, an MSP spokeswoman.

Panamanian authorities were informed of the accident and took possession of the Antares III and its crew, who were on their way back to Panama on Monday.
