Pearl Jam officially confirmed for Costa Rica

U.S. rock band Pearl Jam will play at west San José’s National Stadium on Nov. 20. A list of Latin America tour dates was sent out Monday by the band’s official website to fans signed up on an email list.

Since last week, it had been all but certain that Pearl Jam would play here due to a controversy involving funk rock powerhouse the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The Costa Rican Sports and Recreation Institute (ICODER) board of directors denied the California-based Chili Peppers a permit to play at the newly built $100 million venue because only six shows were allowed at the stadium per year. ICODER’s President Luis Pereza told The Tico Times that Pearl Jam would be the sixth show in November. ICODER later backed down, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers will play on Sept. 12.

Pearl Jam rose to the forefront of the U.S. grunge movement in Seattle, Washington in the early 1990s through hits like “Black” and “Jeremy.” Frontman Eddie Vedder and band mates have gone on to become one of the most influential U.S. rock bands in recent history.

Nov. 9 – Curitiba, Brazil

Nov. 13– Buenos Aires, Argentina
