New train connecting Belén de Heredia to San Jose begins April 4

A new train that will carry passengers between Belén de Heredia and San Jose will begin service on April 4 according to a press released of Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT). The new service was created with an investment of ¢1,500 milliom

The Belén – San José service will be available every 15 minutes during rush hour with a fair of ¢350 (70 cents).

The six new train cars bought in Spain also will offer a special service to the new National Stadium during inauguration week. Trains will head to the stadium starting 2:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Saturday. No special fee will be charge for inauguration activities.

Miguel Carabaguíaz, executive president of Costa Rican Railroad Institute (INCOFER), said in a press release: “Now you can travel in between the two cities in 35 minutes.”

Costa Rica’s president Laura Chinchilla will take a ceremonial ride on the train April 1.
