276 people arrested so far during Semana Santa

Not everyone in Costa Rica is taking the holy part of Semana Santa seriously. Police have arrested 276 people so far during the holiday and seized a surprising amount of illegal foodstuffs .

Here is a breakdown of the arrests made so far during the Easter Holy Week:

Seizures

While plenty of the confiscations involved illegal drugs — the largest seizure this week has been illegally imported fish (a popular dinner during the holidays). Police nabbed a Nicaraguan man with 593 fish hidden in his truck Monday. The fish did not meet health requirements in Costa Rica.

Curiously, police classified the large seizure as “historic” because it is the largest load of illegal fish ever captured during Semana Santa.
