Christmas cards, calendars benefit needy students

The Damas Voluntarias of the Escazú Social Welfare Association are once again selling Christmas cards and calendars to support their scholarship program and library in the western San José suburb of Escazú.

The scholarship program provides uniforms, school supplies and books to needy students yearly, as well as tutoring and scholastic help for the students at the association’s library and study center in Escazú Centro.

The cards and calendars feature original Costa Rican artwork by the winners of the annual “El Color de Costa Rica” art contest. Cards cost ₡650 ($1.30) each, desk calendars are ₡3,500 ($7) and traditional calendars cost ₡5,500 ($11). They are available in Escazú at Auto Mercado, Jiménez & Tanzi, Congo in Mutliplaza Escazú and Farmacia Condal, and in Alajuela at Tienda Stella in Mall Internacional and Sr. y Sra. Ese souvenir store. For thumbnail images of the products, see www.colordecostarica.blogspot.com.

Funds brought in by card and calendar sales are not enough to cover scholarship and library costs, so the Damas Voluntarias are also seeking donations for the cause. For more information, call 2228-0279, email damasvoluescazu@hotmail.com or visit www.becasescazu.blogspot.com.
