China to invest in Costa Rican solar power plant

In President Laura Chinchilla’s first meeting during an official visit to China, representatives from the Costa Rican company GreenerSys on Monday signed an agreement with Chinese company GeSolar to build a solar power plant in the Central American country.

Chinchilla signed the agreement as witness of honor and said she was pleased with the negotiations. “This is an excellent example of how we can unite the strengths of both countries to develop projects of mutual benefit,” Chinchilla said.

The president and her entourage also attended a forum on trade, investment and tourism in Costa Rica, organized by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and Costa Rican officials.

The forum was attended by representatives from 15 Chinese companies who discussed with Chinchilla the promotion of Costa Rican exports and the benefits of the country as a destination for investment and tourism.

On Aug. 20, Chinchilla will visit Seoul, South Korea.
