Costa Rican government launches new informational website

As of Thursday, the government has a new website to provide citizens more information about subjects of public interest, the daily La Nación reported.

The website, www.gob.go.cr, looks like the search engine Google. Users enter a keyword in the search bar and are shown a list of results. As with Google, the search can be narrowed to text, images, videos and news.

The project is an initiative by Gobierno Digital, the branch of government that works to modernize how citizens receive government information. Gobierno Digital Director Alicia Avendaño told La Nación that while past government websites contained good information, they were not designed to make searches easier.

Avendaño added that in the future public and private institutions will be able to buy advertisements on the website and government procedures may be done through the site as well.
