United Airlines to Stop Daily Flight to Guatemala

GUATEMALA CITY – U.S. air carrier United Airlines will stop flying to Guatemala next September due to price increases in fuel costs, according to the company.

Jesús Noguez, sales director for the company in Central America and the Caribbean, told the Guatemalan daily Prensa Libre that due to “high petroleum costs” the airline would stop offering its daily flight from Los Angeles to Guatemala City, a flight United has offered for the past 17 years.

The elimination of the Guatemala flight is part of United’s 14 percent reduction in personnel, which the airline announced last week in Chicago.

United Airlines said that U.S. air carrier Delta Airlines and Salvadoran airline TACA would pick up the slack for the canceled United flight.
