U.S. Independence Day Picnic Set for July 3

The 2009 U.S. Independence Day picnic will be held Friday, July 3, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Cervecería Costa Rica grounds in Alajuela, northwest of San José. Admission will cost $4 or ¢2,500 per person (free for children under 5) and includes all of the hot dogs, beer, soft drinks and other treats available.

Payment should be made with small bills, and no credit cards will be accepted. There will be live music and games for children. The traditional flag-raising ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. with a welcome by U.S. Ambassador Peter Cianchette and special invited guests.

The picnic is open to all U.S. citizens (proof of citizenship required) and their immediate family. For more information or to sponsor the picnic, call Rocío at the American Colony Committee at 2208-4861, or e-mail info@americancolonycr.org.

The committee is also looking for volunteers to help at the hot dog tent and the children’s games.
