World Court rules Costa Rica can navigate San Juan

The International Court of Justice in The Hague, Netherlands, has ruled that Costa Rica has navigation rights for purposes of commerce, including passenger transport, on the San Juan River, a natural border between Costa Rica and Nicaragua. But Nicaragua has the right to require Costa Rican vessels and their passengers stop at two checkpoints along the river, the World Court said.
