Search Continues for 2 Missing Tourists

GRANADA, Nicaragua – More than50 police, military and volunteerslaunched a massive search this week fortwo tourists who disappeared more than aweek ago while hiking Maderas Volcano,on Ometepe Island.The missing hikers, U.S. citizenJordan Alexander Ressler, 23, and Britishcitizen Nicholas Leigh, 28, reportedly lefta nearby hostel, Hacienda Mérida, onNov. 17, and never returned.The hotel owner reported them missingafter several days, prompting a massivesearch mission, including air and foot patrols.Rain and fog temporarily suspendedthe search on Tuesday, but it resumedWednesday and will continue indefinitely,Miriam Torres, police spokeswoman, toldThe Tico Times Wednesday afternoon.A $5,000 reward has been posted bythe hotel for anyone who finds the two,according to the daily La Prensa.Ressler’s parents flew to Nicaraguafrom San Diego, California, this week andLeigh’s parents were expected to arrivefrom Great Britain at press time.
