Sculptures to Commemorate Campaign of 1856

SEVEN foreign artists and one Tico will be invited to construct stainless-steel sculptures to be installed in parks in Alajuela, northwest of San José, as part of the 2006 International Symposium of Monument Sculpture in Alajuela, according to the daily La Nación.

The sculptures will be constructed in April in honor of the 150th anniversary of the Campaign of 1856, which ousted U.S. filibuster William Walker from the region. According to La Nación, the foreign sculptors will participate by invitation only, while proposals are being accepted through Jan. 15 for the one slot reserved for a Costa Rican sculptor.

Interested artists may e-mail Édgar Zúñiga, artistic director of the event, at escultor@edgarzuniga.com for more information.
