Prepare to get some sand between your toes. Jam-grass is coming to Puerto Viejo de Talamanca May 9-11.
Members of The String Cheese Incident, Railroad Earth and Hot Buttered Rum string band, among others, will be setting up camp and hosting a “Tropical Hoedown,” an intimate three-day music festival on the southern Caribbean coast, just steps from the sea.
Arising out of the folk and bluegrass worlds, these musicians also take inspiration in jazz, rock and the psychedelic ethos of pioneering jam bands such as the Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers and Phish.
The host band, Honkytonk Homeslice, is made up of Bill and Jillian Nershi and multi-instrumentalist Scott Law. A few of their friends, including Tim Carbone, Drew Emmitt and Sharon Gilchrist, will join them for several days of some serious picking and grinning.
Local duo Los Flying Borracho Brothers will be opening at least one night, and other local artists may join the festivities.
The concerts will be held May 9-11 at Rocking J’s, just south of downtown Puerto Viejo, beginning each night at 6 p.m. Day passes cost $60. A limited number of tickets for Costa Ricans and legal residents are available for the May 10 and 11 shows, at $20 per show. To reserve one of these tickets, contact John at Aventuras Bravas at 849-7600, 750-2000 or JungleJamJohn@Gmail.com.
You must show a valid cédula when picking up the ticket.
