The book “Schaut auf diese Welt!” (“Look at this World!”), a collaborative effort by cartoonists from 23 countries highlighting the story of the United Nations Children’s Fund, better known as UNICEF, is now on sale.
“Look at this World!” is part of a larger project called Draw Attention, an organization of international cartoonists in support of UNICEF and children’s rights worldwide. Through the art in the book, 33 cartoonists, including The Tico Times’ Arcadio Esquivel, highlight the issues championed by UNICEF around the world.
“The sharpness of the cartoons, the artists’ look at the precarious situations in our world, is adapted like no other technique to direct the attention of man to the work of UNICEF, and literally make them see the necessity of our work,” said Dietrich Garlichs, executive director of UNICEF Germany, where the Draw Attention project was created by Hamburg-based agency Synchronis, in co-operation with UNICEF. The release of the book this year coincides with the 60th anniversary of UNICEF’s creation.
The 96-page book, with text in German, English, Spanish and French, costs 12 euros (about $15) and can be purchased on the Draw Attention Web site (www.draw-attention.de) and at www.amazon.com.
