Festival Honors “Mother Earth”

THE Festival Madre Fértil, Tierra Nuestrais under way in San José. Entitled “Water,Source of Life,” this year’s festival marks theninth for this annual cultural event honoring“Our Fertile Mother Earth.”On the festival program this weekend is aWater Mini-fair at the Costa Rican ArtMuseum, on the east side of La Sabana Park inwestern San José. Highlights will include ademonstration of an electric-powered bus bythe Electric Transport Department of theNational Power and Light Company, recreationaland educational activities emphasizingthe importance of water as a natural resource, aplay entitled “El Varón Desperdicio” (TheWaste Man) by theatrical group Boca Calle,and a concert by the San José National Band.Other scheduled events – all featuring environmentalthemes – include video presentations,art and photography exhibits, lecturesand a tree-planting day.
