Opera ‘Turandot’ Debuts in Costa Rica

Giacomo Puccini’s three-act opera “Turandot” will be performed in Costa Rica for the first time Feb. 20 and 22 at the Melico Salazar Theater in San José, featuring an international cast led by Italian stage director and baritone Massimo Pezzutti.

The opera centers around a beautiful but cold Chinese princess, Turandot, whose heart can only be thawed by a brave man who solves three riddles for her. U.S. soprano Kathleen McCalla will perform the title role, with Italian tenor Miro Solman cast as suitor Prince Calaf.

Tickets range from ¢10,000 to ¢50,000 ($18 to $91) and are available online at www.mundoticket.com, by phone at 2207- 2025, at Servimás outlets in Hipermás and Más x Menos stores, and at Bansbach stores in downtown San José and Multiplaza Escazú, west of the capital. Shows start at 8 p.m.
