Construction Web Site May Ease Bureaucracy

The Economy Ministry this week launched a new Web site for the booming construction industry that is part of the administration’s push to trim unnecessary waits and bureaucratic processes.

The site, www.tramitesconstruccion.go.cr, lays out all the necessary trámites, or processes, for those looking to build, according to a Presidency Ministry statement.

Users can find digital maps on the Web site that lay out zoning restrictions and protected areas. The maps aim to save developers costs and time associated with doing their own pre-construction studies, the statement said. The site also lists construction requirements, and gives users a chance to take care of some of them online.

Presidency Minister Rodrigo Arias said the site will help the administration of his brother, President Oscar Arias, govern with more transparency and efficiency, while minimizing the possibility for corruption.
