Western Union Looking For Qualified Candidates

Western Union, one of the biggest money transfer companies in the world, will increase their operations in Costa Rica this year, expanding its staff by at least 150 employees.

As a result, the company is seeking bilingual candidates with backgrounds in customer service, call centers, administration and industrial engineering, said Christian Rodríguez, vice president of operations in Costa Rica.

The company is adding a new department dealing with fraud and money laundering prevention where most of the new employees will be operating.

As a result of the expansion, the current staff will grow from 1,100 to 1,250 by the end of the year. The local Western Union hub employs about 20 percent of its worldwide staff, making it the biggest Western Union operation center outside of the United States.

The Costa Rican operation provides services in eight different languages to Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, the United States, Canada, the Middle East and Africa.

The company has invested about $9 million in Costa Rica since beginning operations here in 1998. Western Union was one of the first companies to set up operations in Costa Rica’s zona franca, or tax-free zone.

Persons interested in applying for the open positions, can send their résumés to http://corporate.westernunion.com/careers.html.
