5.0 Quake Jolts West Coast, No Damages Reported

AN earthquake that registered 5.0 onthe Richter scale struck the southernPacific coast Sunday night at 9:31.Though it was felt as far north as theCentral Valley, emergency officialsreceived no reports of damages.The epicenter was 30 kilometersunderground in the Pacific, 60 km southof the central Pacific coast town ofQuepos, and was caused by the subductionof the Coco tectonic plate under theCaribbean plate, according to UniversidadNacional geologist Jorge Brenes.Tremors were felt throughout theSouthern Zone and as far north asHeredia, north of San José.
