Canada Donates Funds To Improve Labor Standards

THE Canadian government last weekagreed to donate ¢135.5 million($307,000) to help train Costa RicanLabor Ministry inspectors and ¢36.5 million($83,000) to teach occupationalhealth in the country’s primary schools,according to a statement issued by theCanadian Embassy in San José.Last year, the Canadian governmentdonated ¢143,5 million ($360,000) to aregional office of the International LaborOrganization (ILO) in Costa Rica.“We are proud to be working in collaborationwith the government of CostaRica and the ILO to develop programsthat contribute to helping Costa Rica facethe challenges and take advantage of theopportunities of globalization and trade,”said Joseph Fontana, Canadian Ministerof Labor and Housing, in the statement.
