Cultural agenda for this weekend in Costa Rica

The weekend is finally here, and so are a lot of cultural and artistic plans. Costa Rica’s Greater Metropolitan Area offers different activities, so everyone can have a great time in the city.

On Friday, January 13, and Saturday, January 14, the 2023 season of the Film Center’s “Preamble” program kicks off with the presentation of the “Cinema and Bowie” series, inspired by the figure of the British singer-songwriter, actor, multi-instrumentalist, and designer David Bowie. Entrance is free at 7 p.m., at the Gómez Miralles Hall of the Cinema Center.

Noah Baumbach’s “Frances Ha” (United States, 2012) will be screened on Friday at 7 p.m.; on Saturday, Moonage Daydream, by Bret Morgen, will be presented.

The Museo de Arte Costarricense (MAC) and the Centro Cultural de España en Costa Rica are currently offering “Pequeño Acre,” an exhibition project that combines the creativity manifested between nature and culture. This project shows the “daily life of the native peoples of Mesoamerica, in which we are invited to reflect on who we are.”

The Costa Rican Art Museum invites the public to visit the exhibition from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free, and no reservations are required.

On the other hand, the exhibition “naturÁnima” by artists Ariane Garnier and Carma Casulá is also open. It’s a research project and interdisciplinary artistic creation that shows the particularities of the blue zone of the Nicoya Peninsula.

The exhibition, which will be on display until January 29, 2023, is the result of the artists’ friendship and common interest in environmental and human issues, which awakened both the curiosity to understand the reasons for a blue zone in Costa Rica.

The National Museum of Costa Rica is open from Tuesday to Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Sundays, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is ¢2,500 colones, and on Sundays, it’s free for nationals and residents upon presentation of identification.

Another activity that will be held over the weekend is Expo Furia. Entrepreneurs will offer a sample of products, textile manufacturing, crafts, handicrafts, and accessories. It will be located at the Casa de la Cultura Cartaginesa, situated in downtown Cartago, Sunday, January 15, from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is also free.
