Golfito Marina Project Breaks Ground

A $350 million marina and beach resort project in the southwestern gulf town Golfito is under way after the project received construction permits from the municipality.

Now that the developer, Hacienda El Dorado, S.A., has received the green light from the municipality, it has begun moving ground, and plans to have an official groundbreaking celebration in late February, according to spokeswoman Linda Villafane.

Golfito’s municipal engineer Vladimir Pérez confirmed that the municipality approved the construction permits last month for the project, which had been delayed for months by bureaucratic requirements while the developer found new investors (TT, Sept. 29).

The project’s developer Jim Lindskey has said the project’s first phases – a 217-slip marina, 184 hotel and condo units and commercial plazas – should be up and running by 2008. The project also includes future plans for residential housing.
