Scientists have confirmed what many who witnessed recent gray skies and showers earlier this month may already suspect –the transition from the dry season to the rainy season is under way.
Cloudy skies and isolated showers are expected in coming weeks, and is weather typical for this time of year, National Meteorological Institute (IMN) forecaster Evelyn Quirós told The Tico Times this week.
These isolated showers start in the nation’s southern and central Pacific coast and then occur in the Central Valley provinces of Alajuela, Heredia, Cartago and San José, she said. The transition period will extend into May, when the rainy season begins.
The transition from dry to rainy weather occurs when winds from the northeast Caribbean coast lose some of their strength and allow nuclei of clouds from the Pacific to come in, creating more humidity and clouds in the Central Valley, she said.
For the rest of April, expect sunny mornings and some afternoon showers, though in general, the weather will be pretty unpredictable.
