Pic of the Day: It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Costa Rica

It’s that time of the year again – when there is absolutely no chance of a white Christmas in Costa Rica.

But, of course, the spirit of the holiday does not hinge on snowcapped conifers and Jimmy Stewart. And just because there are no snowflakes falling or chimneys smoking, it doesn’t mean a person can’t deck out a house in red, lights and fake ice.

Costa Rica will kick off the holiday season in style on Saturday, December 14 when it celebrates Festival de la Luz through the streets of San José.

The country’s biggest holiday celebration, the Festival de la Luz, or Festival of Lights, started in 1996. This year, it will feature 10 floats and 13 bands, according to event organizers.

The parade begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Expect detours and delays throughout the day if you’re driving through the city.
