Herediano qualifies for ‘Gran Final’ of Costa Rican soccer against Alajuelense

Herediano earned a goalless draw in Sunday’s second leg of the second-round phase of the 2019 Apertura soccer championship against Alajuelense and will play against the same team in a “Gran Final” for the title.

The Heredianos prevailed in the home-and-home series with an aggregate score of 2-0, thanks to their victory in the first leg by that score with goals from striker Francisco Rodríguez.

Although the “manudos” carried the weight of Sunday’s game, they were unable to break the wall of Herediano, led by their goalkeeper Esteban Alvarado.

The first match of the Apertura final will be Sunday at the Eladio Rosabal Stadium in Heredia. The round will be played on Sunday, December 22 at the Morera Soto Stadium in Alajuela.

Alajuelense seeks title number 30 of its history, while Herediano searches for its 28th.
