Spanish airline Evelop will offer flights to Costa Rica in 2020

Spanish charter airline Evelop will offer flights between Madrid and Costa Rica starting in June 2020, the Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT) announced.

Evelop will offer six charter flights over an eight-week period beginning on June 24.

The route will be operated by an Airbus A330-300 aircraft with a capacity for 388 passengers in an all-economy configuration. The flight will leave Madrid at 11:30 a.m. with a scheduled arrival to Juan Santamaría International Airport near San José at 2:20 p.m.

“With this charter route, a new method of arrival is opened for one of Costa Rica’s main markets in Europe in alliance with one of the strongest tour operators in the Iberian Peninsula,” said María Amalia Revelo, Minister of Tourism, in a statement. “We are very happy that the negotiations which started 10 months ago have ended so soon and in a way that is beneficial for Costa Rican tourism.”

Through October, Costa Rica has welcomed 400,374 European tourists, including more than 58,000 from Spain, according to ICT.

Evelop is owned by the Barceló Group, an international tourism company based in Spain. The airline currently advertises flights from Madrid, Spain to Cancún, Mexico; Habana, Cuba; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; and Port Louis, Mauritius.

Tickets for the Madrid-San José route have yet to go on sale.
