Domestic airline Aerobell adds flights to SJO

Domestic airline Aerobell will operate flights out of Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) starting this December, a company representative told The Tico Times.

Starting Dec. 12, the carrier will begin service to and from Costa Rica’s busiest airport. The move will facilitate travel for tourists who arrive at SJO on international flights and connect to a domestic destination.

Previously, Aerobell only served the San José area with its hub at Tobías Bolaños International Airport in Pavas.

The number of airlines offering domestic flights in Costa Rica has expanded since NatureAir ceased operations in early 2018.

Aerobell, Green Airways, SANSA, Skyway and TAC all offer service to an expanding list of airports across the country. Of those, Green Airways, SANSA and Skyway fly from Juan Santamaría International Airport, which inaugurated a domestic terminal in 2018.

The government has also invested heavily in domestic airport infrastructure with the hopes that it will create jobs and bolster the tourism industry.
