Fall of Fútbol: Watch Costa Rica’s national soccer teams in action this month

Costa Rica’s men’s and women’s national soccer teams are both playing home matches this month.

The men’s national team is participating in CONCACAF Nations League group play, while the women are hosting a Pre-Olympic qualifying tournament against other Central American nations.

Want to watch La Sele in action? Here’s when, where and how to do it. (And yes, we know Costa Rica doesn’t technically have a fall season, but bear with us for the alliteration.)

October 4: La Sele (women) vs. Nicaragua – 8 p.m. at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela. Tickets are 2,000 colones (about $3.50) at www.specialticket.net.

October 8: La Sele (women) vs. El Salvador – 7 p.m. at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela. Tickets are 2,000 colones at www.specialticket.net.

October 10: Haiti vs. La Sele (men) – 9 p.m. at Stade Sylvio Cator in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

October 13: La Sele (men) vs. Curaçao – 6 p.m. at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela. Tickets start at 5,000 colones (about $8.50) at www.specialticket.net, Servimás vendors and Grupo Mutual.

This is the inaugural season of the CONCACAF Nations League, which will be used to determine which countries qualify for the 2021 Gold Cup.

The Costa Rican women are competing for a berth in a tournament to determine the region’s qualifiers for the 2020 Olympics. That tournament will be held in early 2020, and the top two teams will earn a berth in the Summer Games.
