The Seattle, Washington-based company said it hopes to fill the positions — which include roles in customer support, cloud computing, and finance and accounting — over the next six months.

Costa Rica’s President, Carlos Alvarado, said he, along with the private sector, “continues working to reactivate the economy.”

Amazon has been in Costa Rica since 2008 and today employs more than 7,500 people here, according to the company. Its local offices are in free-trade zones in San José and Heredia.

The 2,000 new jobs include virtual (work-from-home) positions to increases opportunities for those who live outside the Greater Metropolitan Area, President Alvarado said.
