Twice as nice: Güity wins second gold at Grand Prix

A day after he placed himself atop the world rankings with his time in the 200-meter T64 at the 2019 Para Athletics Grand Prix, Sherman Güity finished in first once again.

Saturday, the Costa Rican athlete won the 100-meter sprint with a time of 00:10.99 at the international event hosted in Nottwil, Switzerland.

In his short career as a para-athlete, Güity has earned: Two bronze medals at an event in Arizona; two gold medals in Barranquilla, Colombia; one gold and one silver in Sao Paulo, Brazil; and in his first competition in Europe, two golds in Nottwil, Switzerland.

President Carlos Alvarado tweeted his support of Güity, writing that he “congratulates the Tico athlete Sherman Güity for his outstanding participation” at the 2019 Para Athletics Grand Prix.

Güity began training as a para-athlete after losing part of his left leg in a 2017 traffic accident.
