Sun halo dazzles in sky over Costa Rica

The Saturday morning sky above Costa Rica’s Central Valley featured a (relatively) rare optical phenomenon known as a sun halo or 22 degree halo.

According to the National Meteorological Institute (IMN), the halo is an optical effect caused by suspended ice particles in the troposphere that refract light by making a spectrum of colors around the sun.
