3rd Lapathon to support Osa Peninsula schools

Lace up those sneakers and head down to the Osa Peninsula for the third annual Lapathon Jungle Run, a fundraising event that supports local schools, May 1 at Lapa Rios Ecolodge on the southern tip of the peninsula.

This year’s 18-kilometer run is limited to 300 participants. The cost to register is $20, with all proceeds going toward the infrastructure needs of local schools. Winners (first to finish and most pledges earned) will receive free nights and meals at one of six resorts in Costa Rica and Nicaragua affiliated with Cayuga Sustainable Hospitality (www.cayugaonline.com), including Lapa Rios.

Created in the 1990s under the philosophy that “a rain forest left standing is worth more than cut down,” Lapa Rios is set on a private nature reserve, spread over 1,000 acres of lowland tropical rain forest. Over the years, the lodge has been recognized for its Earth-saving ways by Condé Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, TripAdvisor, National Geographic and others.

To sign up for the Lapathon, go to www.laparios.com/lapathon. Donations or support for the runners are also accepted.
