New grant program seeks to boost Costa Rican nonprofits

Outstanding Costa Rican nonprofit organizations seeking to jumpstart their fundraising, outreach, or overall capacity can now apply for support from a new source.

The Costa Rica USA Foundation for Cooperation (CRUSA), a nonprofit organization headquartered in San José, has announced the launch of its new Community Catalyst Small Grants Program, which will provide grants of up to $10,000 on a rolling basis.

“The program seeks to promote community impact and philanthropy in Costa Rica by providing outstanding nonprofit initiatives with funding that allows them to build their organizational capacity in a meaningful and lasting way,” said CRUSA Executive Delegate Michelle Coffey. The Community Catalyst initiative replaces the foundation’s Small Grants Program, which has supported a variety of nonprofit projects nationwide in recent years.

The grants are intended to catalyze growth by address non-recurring costs. For example, grants can be used by organizations to invest in resources or campaigns that will allow them to increase fundraising capacity; invest in human capacity building for their organization for increased impact; make key infrastructure improvements to expand its services; or obtain essential training for personnel, among other actions.

Organizations interested in learning more or downloading the application forms are invited to visit the Community Catalyst section of the CRUSA website. Only legally registered nonprofit organizations are eligible to apply.

CRUSA, founded in 1996 as a legacy of USAID’s work in Costa Rica, has been working for 21 years as a grantmaker and project partner to promote Costa Rican sustainable development and international cooperation. In 2000, the foundation established Amigos of Costa Rica, headquartered in Washington, DC, to unite outstanding Costa Rican nonprofits with donors in the United States and around the world.
