MOPT: “Severe damage” to roads in Central Pacific, the Southern Zone and Limón

The relentless rains brought by Tropical Storm Tomás has resulted in severe damage to  roads to the Central Pacific, the Southern Zone and Limón, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT).

The National Highway Council (Conavi) is attending to damage at the Interamericana Norte highway to Guanacaste and parts of the Internamericana Sur. Other areas attended to include Monte del Aguacate (Route 3), Guápiles (Route 32) and the Coastal South (Route 34).

A landslide has closed the road in the Cerro de la Muerte area of the Internamericana Sur. Parts of the road between San Isidro and Buenos Aires also are closed. Debris and flooding between Quepos and Manuel Antonio have also isolated some residents. Also, it’s been reported that a bridge over the Río La Penca in San Rafael de Guatuso has collapsed.

The Tropical Storm will continue to dump rain on Costa Rica through Friday.
