In the final stage of a three-part road reconstruction project, San José’s westbound Avenida 8 will close next Monday.
The road will remain closed five months between 13th and 25th streets while workers install reinforced concrete, which is supposed to last 25 to 40 years.
This is the third time a section of Avenida 8 has been closed to traffic in the last year. In early 2010 and again in the fall, crews repaired eastern sections of the avenue. The road also closed in mid-November due to damage caused by heavy rains.
Avenida 8 will remain open westbound to the Environment Ministry building, allowing traffic from Los Yoses to pass through the city. Â
Alternative routes include Avenida 6, which runs along the northern side of the court buildings, or Avenida 12, which travels further south of the city center.
